About Us

The Heart of Georgia Altamaha Workforce Development Board (HGAWDB) (Region 9/Area 16) is comprised of 62 private and public sector professionals who donate their time to serve on the Board to oversee the coordination of employment related services for the citizens of the Heart of Georgia. The Board members meet regularly to decide how services will be provided and to ensure services are provided in the best possible manner.

Board members represent employers and agencies such as the Department of Labor, Job Training Unlimited, Department of Family and Children Services, etc. These are a few partners among the many who come together to provide services for the customer in one location. Services are geared toward the customer seeking employment, housing, education, training, food, mental health services, and many other employment/human service needs.

The area is comprised of current and future comprehensive One-Stop Centers and Information Centers to provide services and information to customers throughout the seventeen counties in the region. Some sites already contain coordinated services and they will continue to play a role in the system. Other sites are to be developed or must be enhanced to provide the best service. The HGAWDB’s goal will be to provide to the citizens the ability to find in their own county, a comprehensive center or access points. Comprehensive centers will contain all the technology, resources, people, and information necessary for customers to receive services. These locations will also contain employer services and resources. The HGAWIB looks to the future when the centers are “common knowledge” and a “household word”. Our centers will be the “convenience stores” for employment and human service related needs.

The HGAWDB strives to maintain the lowest unemployment rate with the highest quality worker and the highest quality of customer service for the employee and the employer.
